    Why Buy Muskoka Real Estate?

Not only is Muskoka Ontario one of the top vacation destinations in Canada, but it’s also considered one of the top places to live or own leisure property. And yet while it’s often considered as a playground of the rich and famous – it is after all the location of some of the most impressive luxury real estate in Ontario – it also offers plenty of real estate opportunities to those wanting a more attainable level of luxury.

Located just a two-hour drive (or 30 minutes if flying) north of the city that’s lent its name to one of the film industry’s largest love-ins known as the Toronto International Film Festival, Muskoka has been attracting the wealthy since the late 1800s. These early adventurers were largely industrialists from places like Pittsburgh and New York, drawn as much by the spectacular scenery as for the prized fishing and hunting on the region’s four major lakes: Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau, Lake Joseph and Lake of Bays.

These days, while there’s still plenty of wildlife (moose, deer, and black bear are relatively common), the only shooting going on is with cameras.

Living (and loving!) the Muskoka Lifestyle

Cottage Country, as Muskoka is affectionately known, is stunningly beautiful. Its pristine lakes, pine-covered shorelines and rugged islands are a year-round draw for some two million visitors… along with plenty of celebrities.

What’s the big attraction? Well, a visit to Muskoka, after the hustle-bustle of a big city, is like being transported to a completely different place and time. It looks different: the weathered, exposed ruggedness of the ancient Canadian Shield, said to date back 1.5 billion years to the time when the earth’s crust was formed, is unique to this region.

So, too, are the cool, deep lakes that reside in the cracks and crevices left behind by the massive glaciers that once covered the land. It also sounds different: the haunting call of a loon echoing across the lake, the laughter of children splashing in the water or, most memorable of all, those occasions when it seems there’s no sound whatsoever (or at least no noise) – it’s just you, the gentle rustle of a breeze in the trees and the lapping of the water as it tickles the shoreline.
